Course -- length / #controls - Navigation level
White -- 1.89km / 10c - Beginner
Yellow -- 2.26km / 9c - Advanced beginner
Orange -- 2.60km / 12c - Intermediate
Green -- 3.50km / 14c - Advanced
Red -- 4.62km / 15c - Advanced
Climb is minimal on all courses (one meter contours!)

Pre-marked maps -- scale 1:7,500 / contour interval 1m
720m, flat walk to start from registration / parking.
E-punching (rental e-cards available) on all courses.

IMPORTANT SCHEDULE NOTE: In order to facilitate the picnic, registration and starts will be from 10am until 12 noon (instead of the usual 11am-1pm); there will also be a 2-hour time limit (down from the usual 3-hours), with all courses closing at 2pm.

Home of Dave Hodgdon & Lyla Meader -- on the edge of the Loantaka map!
1 - 4 pm

The members’ picnic will be held at the home of Dave Hodgdon & Lyla Meader (68 Loantaka Lane North), which is adjacent to the park and on the map. Food and sundries for the picnic are provided by the Club. Members need not bring a contribution.

Food will be simple but plentiful. Plans are for hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, salads (potato & macaroni), & soft drinks. Of course, paper plates, cups, napkins, utensils, etc. will also be provided. Please let
the Event Director know if you have any special dietary needs.

Directions to the Orienteering Event

By Auto, from the North
• From I-80 and north, take I-287 southbound (toward Morristown) to Exit 35 for Madison Ave / Rt 124.
• At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Madison Ave / Rt 124 west.
• Moving to the left, take Rt. 124 west for only 0.2 miles to the traffic signal at South Street.
• Make the sharp left onto South St, and go about 0.4 miles the traffic signal at the I-287 ramps.
• About 0.7 miles from the I-287 signal, you will pass a major entrance for Loantaka Brook Reservation with parking and a ball field; keep going.
• Shortly after that, the road curves left (no real choices) and changes name to Spring Valley Rd; keep going.
• After about 1.9 miles from the curve, you will reach a STOP sign and blinking red signal at Loantaka Way.
• Turn left onto Loantaka Way and go about 0.5 miles to the parking lot on the left.
• Registration is in the picnic grove in the forest north of the parking lot.

By Auto, from the South
• From I-78 and south, take I-287 northbound (toward Morristown) to Exit 35 for South St.

By Public Transit
Train service is available from NYC Penn Station and from Hoboken (NJ) Station to Madison, NJ, via the
Morris and Essex Line. From the Madison train station, it is about 1.7 miles to the Loantaka Way parking.
• Go west from Madison Station to Green Ave.
• Turn left (south) on Green Ave and go about 0.5 mile to Woodland Rd.
• Turn right onto Woodland Rd. and go about 0.6 mile to the traffic light at Loantaka Way
• Turn left onto Loantaka Way and go about 0.5 mile, bearing right at the triangular intersection at Shunpike Rd, to the parking lot on the right.
• Registration is in the picnic grove in the forest north of the parking lot.

Directions to the Picnic

Driving (or walking) from the Loantaka Way Parking Lot
• Exit the parking lot and turn right onto Loantaka Way.
• Go 0.4 mile and take the first right turn onto Loantaka Lane North.
• Go 0.3 mile to the 5th house on the right, #68.
• Please park on the right (northbound) side of the street, completely on the pavement (not on grass!).

Driving Directly to the Picnic
Follow the above driving directions to the orienteering event, except proceed from the curve at which South Street becomes Spring Valley Road (6th bullet from the North; 4th from the South) as follows:
• Continue on Spring Valley Rd for about 1.2 miles from the curve, and turn left onto Loantaka Lane North;
it is also the 6th street on the left after the curve, and the 3rd street on the left after Kitchell Rd..
• After about 0.2 mi, Loantaka Ln turns sharply to the right; #68 is the 2nd house on the left.
• Please turn around and park on the right (northbound) side of the street, completely on the pavement (not on
grass!).
