Hudson Highlander on Sunday, October 15, 2006Highlander XI: It's at Silvermine This year's Highlander has 3 orienteerings legs, the trail run and the King/Queen of the Mountain, with a total nominal length 26.3k, 700m downhill, 25 controls. Start location is at the Silvermine area in Harriman State Park. Take Rt 6 East (from New York Thruway) or West (from Palisades Pkwy) to Long Mountain (Queensboro) Circle. Exit circle onto Seven Lakes Drive. Go 1.3 mi. Silvermine parking is on left. Registration 7.30 - 8.30 AM. Join HVO for the Hudson Highlander XI Sunday, October 15, 2006 - Harriman State Park, NY Pre-registration required. Entry fee: $27 ($22 if you finished a previous year's race) Entry Deadline: Friday, October 6, 2006 Start time: 9 AM Cut off time for last official finishers: 5.00 PM Location: Will be announced by on the web site and by e-mail in the week before the event. This year's edition XI features the usual 26.3k metric marathon distance, several orienteering stages and a trail run. We aim at making the course somewhat faster by giving trail options, yet will also include fine technical sections plus the notorious King/Queen of the Mountain section. Competitors will partake in the traditional Highlander hospitality. Staffed aid stations will dispense food and drink at transition points, and there will be plenty of food at the post-race buffet that is free to all competitors. And, as is tradition, a commemorative prize will be awarded to all official finishers completing the race within the 8-hour time limit. Finishers in all previous Hudson Highlanders will be guaranteed starting slots in this year's race if their entry is postmarked by October 6, 2006 and received no later than October 9, 2006 Late entries - including those postmarked after October 6, received after October 9, or phoned or e-mailed in just prior to the race - will be accepted only if space is available in the field, and at the organizer's discretion. Any late entrants accepted into the race must pay a $35 entry fee, so don't delay - enter today! Foreign competitors may pay upon arrival. Registration: Send a check, payable to Hudson Valley Orienteering (HVO), along with your name, address, phone number, date of birth, orienteering club, SI punch # (if available) and e-mail address to: Daniel Schaublin P.O. Highlander organizers graciously welcome any non-participating spouse, significant other or friend who is available to help us on the day of the event while a competitor is out on the course. There will be a final e-mail message with all the necessary event details, including directions to the assembly area, sent to all entrants on or about October 12.
